Kasol is a bazaar on a river, and most of what you came for is a walk from it. The Parvati runs loud below the hostel and the trails start where the road stops — Kheerganga from Barshaini, Rasol up the other side, Chalal twenty minutes along the water for the afternoon you do not want to commit to.
The village is small and it is used to travellers, which cuts both ways: the bakeries are good, the gear shops are honest about what they sell, and the prices in September are not the prices in February. Cash matters here — the ATM in Kasol runs dry on weekends and the next reliable one is in Bhuntar.
Manikaran is four kilometres up, with the gurudwara and the hot springs, and it is worth the bus even if you do not stay. Malana is a different day and a different set of rules; ask before you go rather than after.

- overnight Volvo from Delhi to Bhuntar or Kasol, roughly twelve to fourteen hours, then a shared cab.
We are ten minutes on foot from the Kasol bus stand along the river — message us when you get off and somebody will walk down.

I came to Kasol in 2016 to walk to Kheerganga and did not leave. Riverbend started as four bunks in a room I was renting; it is twenty-six beds now, and the same kitchen. We are not a party hostel and we are not a silent retreat. People cook together, the roof gets loud until eleven and quiet after, and most mornings somebody is leaving for a trek at six with two others they met at dinner. The female dorm has its own floor and its own bathroom, and I will not put a man in it for any money. That is the one rule I am rigid about.

From noon. Leave your pack in the cloakroom any time before that and go to the river.

Mornings and evenings — the geysers are on a schedule, which is normal up here.
